30 YAŞ VE ÜSTÜ BİREYLERİN ÜNİVERSİTE EĞİTİMİ SÜRECİNDE KARŞILAŞTIKLARI SORUNLAR ÜZERİNE BİR DEĞERLENDİRME

Abstract
İnsanı hayata bağlayan ve onu daha iyi şeyler yapmak üzere motive eden en önemli unsurlardan biri eğitimdir. Üstelik eğitim her yaş grubuna ve farklı demografik özelliklere sahip kişilere göre uyarlanabilen bir alandır. Ancak yine de eğitimden en iyi verimin alınabilmesi belli koşullara da bağlıdır. Özellikle yaş faktörü eğitimde verimlilik açısından son derece önemlidir. Bu nedenden ötürü belirli bir yaşın üzerindeki kişilerin yüksek öğrenim sırasında çeşitli sorunlar yaşamaları muhtemeldir.
Bu çalışma, yüksek öğrenim gören 30 yaş üstü bireylerin eğitimleri sırasında ne tür sorunlarla karşılaştıklarını ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır. Araştırmanın verileri, Türkiye’de farklı üniversitelerde öğrenim gören 30 yaş ve üzeri üniversite öğrencileri ile yüz yüze, derinlemesine görüşme yapılarak elde edilmiştir. Görüşmelerden elde edilen veriler, içerik analizi yöntemiyle analiz edilmiştir. Katılımcıların söyledikleri, benzer temalar etrafında kategorize edilerek ortak sorunlar, engeller ve deneyimler ortaya konmuştur. Literatürden elde edilen bilgilerle bu bulgular karşılaştırılmış ve ortak temalar doğrultusunda yorumlanmıştır. Araştırmada katılımcıların eğitimleri sırasında çoğunun çeşitli işlerde ve/veya evde iş yapıyor olmalarından kaynaklı zihinsel yorgunluk yaşadıkları, aynı nedenlerle derslere aktif bir şekilde katılamadıkları, aileye zaman ayıramadıkları, teknolojiden diğer (genç) arkadaşları kadar faydalanamadıkları ortaya çıkmıştır.

Abstract
Education is one of the most important elements that binds people to life and motivates them to do better. Moreover, education is an area that can be adapted to all age groups and people with different demographic characteristics. However, getting the best out of education also depends on certain conditions. In particular, the age factor is extremely important in terms of efficiency in education. For this reason, people over a certain age are likely to experience various problems during higher education.
This study aims to reveal what kind of problems higher education students over the age of 30 face during their education. The data of the study were obtained through face-to-face, in-depth interviews with university students aged 30 and over studying at different universities in Turkey. The data obtained from the interviews were analyzed using content analysis. What the participants said was categorized around similar themes and common problems, obstacles and experiences were revealed. These findings were compared with the information obtained from the literature and interpreted in line with common themes. In the study, it was revealed that most of the participants experienced mental fatigue during their education due to the fact that they were working at various jobs and/or doing work at home, they could not actively participate in the lessons for the same reasons, they could not spare time for family, and they could not benefit from technology as much as their other (young) friends.
